Hi, I'm Alex, welcome to my website!

My name is Alex Kumar, and I am a part-time staff photographer at Indiana University's communications and marketing office, in Bloomington, Indiana!

We are under the Vice President for Communications and Marketing at IU. You'll see me shooting anything from student life to events to aerial photography (I'm a licensed Part-107 UAS operator)  to portraits. 

My second part-time job is being the Community Manager for a full-time video gaming content creator, StoneMountain64. In that role, I am in charge of a team of 25+ moderators from around the world, as well as website management and helping with internal strategy for future organizational plans. I run a Facebook group with 315,000+ people and a Discord server with 75,000+ people.

I got my start as a professional photographer as a student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN by working at The Exponent, Purdue's student-run newspaper. I started as a staff photographer and worked my way up to being the editor of the photo desk for 3 semesters.

After that, I really learned how to be a marketing photographer by working as a student intern on the photo team for Purdue University's Marketing and Media department. The incredibly-talented team of Charles Jischke, Mark Simons and John Underwood truly gave me the skills I needed in off-camera flash to succeed in my future career.

From 2021 until late 2022, I finally blended my love of photography and my love for craft beer by starting a position at Switchyard Brewing Company as a Digital Content Specialist. At that position, I was the primary marketing photographer/videographer for the brewery and was in charge of all things content creation. I even got to brew my own custom beer to have on draft in the taproom! 

Photography is my passion, and I am always striving for the opportunity to display my technique and work for any eager client. My current goal is to find and secure a full-time position as a professional photographer, while still working on exciting freelance shoots.
